Why Generational Family Portraits Matter (and How to Make Them Fun + Stress-Free)

When was the last time your whole family was together—truly together? Not just in a group chat or a blurry selfie, but in the same place, sharing stories, laughs, and love across generations? If you’re lucky enough to have that moment coming up soon, it’s time to capture it.

Generational family portrait sessions are some of the most meaningful I offer. They’re a celebration of legacy, love, and connection—a way to preserve the story of your family as it grows and evolves. Whether you’re vacationing on the Southcoast of Massachusetts or gathering locally in Mattapoisett, this is your chance to turn a fleeting moment into a lasting heirloom.

Why Generational Sessions Are So Important

Families grow fast. Kids become adults, siblings move away, and before you know it, it’s been years since everyone was in the same photo. These sessions are about more than smiles for the camera—they’re about capturing the relationships, personalities, and legacy that make your family yours.

These portraits become treasures. Grandparents with grandchildren. Adult siblings laughing. Quiet moments. Big, joyful ones. I photograph the whole group and then smaller combinations—siblings, cousins, grandparent/grandchild duos, and more—with a mix of posed and candid moments. You’ll end up with a gallery that feels like a time capsule, full of meaning.

What to Expect During a Session

Every family is unique, and so is every session. We tailor your experience so it feels relaxed, fun, and totally you. I work with all ages and personalities, making sure everyone feels comfortable—even the “camera-shy” ones.

If you’re vacationing here in Mattapoisett (or anywhere on the Southcoast), it’s easy to plan your session while you’re in town. I often work with families who are traveling in from out of state and staying in places like the Goodspeed Island Rd Airbnb—a beautiful beachfront spot that’s perfect for portraits.

“What Should We Wear?” I’ve Got You.

This is the #1 question I get, and we take care of it together. About 2–3 weeks before your session, we meet for a personalized Zoom wardrobe consultation. I help you create a cohesive color palette that looks amazing on camera and fits the setting—no more guessing or ending up with one person in bright red while everyone else is in white.

I’ll guide you on complementary colors, textures, and outfit coordination that makes shopping easy for everyone. Best of all? You can tell the kids to blame me for the outfit planning—I’m happy to be the “bad guy” so you don’t have to be.

From Portraits to Print: Albums + Wall Art Made Easy

Most of my clients choose to invest in albums or wall art to display their portraits. My luxury albums feature a stunning acrylic cover and are designed so you can leave them out on a coffee table—not tucked away in a drawer.

Want wall art? I take the guesswork out of that too. Whether you live locally or out of state, I can design custom artwork using photos of your walls and show you exactly how the sizing and frames will look. Once you approve the design, everything is shipped straight to your home.

It’s beautiful, seamless, and made to last.

Let Me Take the Stress Off Your Plate

Getting everyone together is already a feat—coordinating outfits and planning a photo session shouldn’t be the thing that stresses you out. That’s where I come in.

From start to finish, I make the process simple, personal, and enjoyable. You focus on the moments. I’ll handle the rest.
